Description: This course is for students that are familiar with music to deepen their knowledge of music theory. Music theory is the study of the structure and mechanics of music. We will learn how music works and why some music appeals to us instead of other music. As the students master aspects of music theory they will be able to compose music for their instruments and musical groups.

Organization: Music Theory is a classroom course that will include lecture, demonstration,  and written work. Students will become familiar with the piano as a principal instrument to understand class concepts. Students will also complete musical work in class and for homework. Later on in the class assignments may shift to project based paper and computer work.

The operating system Ubuntu Studio will be used to familiarize students with many programs used or similar to those used in the professional world.
